Adult foster care (also called community residential services) provides housing, meals, and 24-hour support in a licensed home for up to four or five adults. Homes serve seniors and adults with disabilities or mental health needs, with a caregiver living in or staff on shift.
Most residents use a Medicaid waiver — CADI, DD, BI, or Elderly Waiver — to cover services, plus Housing Support or their own income for room and board. Private pay is also possible.
The Minnesota Department of Human Services licenses adult foster care through county agencies. Licenses cap the number of residents and specify the populations served. Ask to see the license and the home's most recent review.
